Work Day at Aldersgate Camp and Retreat Center, May 19

Please join the group from the church and community heading to Aldersgate Camp and Retreat Center, 7955 Brantingham Road, Greig, NY 13345 for Work Day, Saturday, May 19. Please sign up on the sheet posted in Fellowship Hall or contact Don Schuessler (287-0746) to carpool. A group will be leaving the parking lot behind church at 7:30 AM.

Open House at Aldersgate Camp and Retreat Center

Aldersgate Camp and Retreat Center, 7955 Brantingham Road, Greig, NY 13345 will host an Open House on Saturday, June 16, 2 PM – 7 PM.

Hot Dogs for Camp?

Yes, a Hot Dog Sale on Saturday, June 16 – proceeds will assist the Camping Scholarship Committee in the effort to support children attending a United Methodist Camp.

Look for the Hot Dog Sale in the Village Park as part of the community Flag Day celebration. Volunteers will be needed to assist with this activity.

Change the World T-shirts available

Night at the Ballpark, Thursday, June 21

The Crossroads District United Methodist Men invite all to attend this event – for the 33rd year! Syracuse Chiefs Baseball team vs. the Pawtucket Red Rox. 5:30 PM tailgate party (free hot dogs and coneys) – bring a dish to share if you’d like; 6:45 PM first pitch; 7 PM lead the National Anthem with your fellow United Methodists.

Camping Scholarships – $50 and Go!

The 2012 summer camping season is fast approaching and our church camping Scholarship Committee will be awarding scholarships to children and families to assist with the cost of attending a week of camp for children and/or a weekend event at one of the 6 Camp and Retreat Ministry centers of the Upper New York Annual Conference. Request a Scholarship Application from the church office (287-2440 or 1stumc@centralny.twcbc.com) and return it as soon as possible. Families are responsible for the first $50; the church will pay the rest – as funds allow. Discounts (siblings, refer a friend, early application) are available from the camps. An invoice must be passed along to the Camping Scholarship Committee to assist them with record keeping.

Thank you to all to participated and assisted – a great time was had by all! Children are invited to come to the Gouverneur Bowl for a time of exercise, hot food, storytelling, singing and to experience the love and acceptance of Christian community. Wednesday, April 11 at 1:00 PM the church will be covering (thanks to the grant from the Upper New York Conference) the cost of one game of bowling and a meal.

UMW Housewares Sale – May 5 $600 raised!

Update – thanks to all who helped make this event a success for the UMW!

The United Methodist Women will be holding a housewares sale on Saturday, May 5 from 9 AM – 1:30 PM. Donations of gently used items appreciated (dishes, rugs, towels, pots and pans, planters, garden tools, blankets, curtains, sheets/bedding, cookbooks, small appliances, picture frames, knick knacks, wall decorations). Items can be left at the church beginning on Sunday, April 29. Help is needed to set up on May 4 and clean-up following the sale on Saturday.

Community Garden planting May 20 -Change the World

The Church will be adding raised garden beds to the lower parking lot to raise vegetables for the Friday luncheon. Stay tuned for details. If you starting plants for your garden please consider planting a few extra to donate to the church garden project. Everything kicks off Sunday, May 20. There will be a gardening – get your hands dirty theme in worship and then after fellowship everyone is invited to help assemble the beds, fill them with dirt. Weather permitting, plants will be put in the ground. Wear your gardening duds, bring your gloves and help to Change the World.
